When Ruban Kandasamy arrived in Australia as a refugee, more than ten years ago, I was there at Brisbane Airport to greet him and welcome him to his new home.

Last night, Ruban and his family opened their Maiwar home to me where we shared a delicious Sri Lankan meal and celebrated the family's contribution to the Queensland community as part of Refugee Week 2020.

Refugee Week is a chance for communities to unite across the country raising awareness about the issues affecting refugees and celebrate the positive contributions made by refugees in Australian society.
